BAD GIRLS COLLECTIVE

Dismantling what it means to be a 'good girl' one book at a time

WOMEN, WORDS AND WISDOM

Founded by Kara in 2016, Bad Girls Collective is a network of badass women on a mission to dismantle what it means to be a ‘good girl’. Centered around the power of literature, the mega book club offers a one-of-a-kind safe and intimate platform for the dissemination of women’s voices and perspectives, by connecting authors directly with live audiences from all corners of the globe.

The Collective has made waves–picking up press, booking big-name authors, and amassing over 10k members in its first few seasons.

There’s no stopping women on a mission.

The &OR visual identity and tone of voice breathes the brand's ethos into all creative elements with a straightforward openness, confidence, and connection to Earth. Through thoughtful choices in type, colour, and photography our visual language gives &OR's community permission to define their own version of a better life and/or a better planet.

COMMUNITY

What started as a New Year’s resolution of Kara's to read more quickly evolved into a powerful movement. A small but mighty book club in Toronto grew month by month, revealing a dire need for more opportunities for women’s voices to be heard.

By 2016, it had transformed into a city-wide phenomenon. Since its inception, the Collective has expanded beyond books, hosting seasonal markets for female-run businesses, various workshops, and launching the Nike sponsored Bad Girls Run Club.

BOLD AND BADASS

Developing the Bad Girls aesthetic was easy: no pink. Bold, strong, yet refined, experimental, and modular. With the Collective’s ever-expanding vision, we created a logo and lock-ups composed of elements that come apart and regroup, reflecting Bad Girls’ collective strength and power while celebrating individual achievements.

With an intentional choice to stick to an always black-and-white photography approach, we aim to focus on women's voices rather than the usual visual gaze we’re so often subjected to.

A HUB FOR THE WELL-READ

BADGIRLSCOLLECTIVE.CA was crafted as the ultimate hub for the well-read. Dive into seasonal curated reading lists, savour community written book reviews, grab event details, shop for Bad Girls gear, and join the crew—all in one badass spot.

After reading endless reviews on The New Yorker, The Globe, The Atlantic and so on, we realized how narrow of a path readers are lead down to find their next read.
We want to hear what real women from our community are reading, what’s on their bedside tables and in general how literature reflects their current social and political attitudes.
